Q) Is there enough space under my roof?
A) Yes, provided the underside of your roof apex, measured from the floor of your loft, is at least 2.1 metres tall.
Q) How complete is the service Additional Rooms offers?
A) We undertake everything from design to completion, once we have completed your conversion you will be left free to decorate and add your own finishing touches.
Q) My house is modern and the roof space is supported by rows of timber zig zags?
A) These are called 'Trussed roofs' and although they require specialist knowledge (some companies won't attempt them) we in fact deal with them all the time with around half the conversions we do being this type.
Q) Can we choose the design of our new stair case?
A) Yes, we arrange for an on-site visit by a project manager of the staircase company to help design the perfect set of stairs to suit your home, which are always made of solid pine and never MDF.
Q) What about planning permission?
A) All conversions have to comply with building regulations but on some occasions you may also require planning permission. In such case there is no need to worry, we take care of all that. As we have over 20 years experience we know the process inside out. We will prepare and submit all drawings complete with structural calculations and deal with authorities on your behalf.
Q) How long will it take to complete?
A) That depends on whether you need planning permission and how quickly your local authority takes to grant it. However, the actual construction of a typical conversion usually takes between 3-5 weeks. Therefore you could be in your new room in as little as a few months from now.
Q) How much does a conversion cost?
A) As each house is unique, there's no easy answer. After one simple site visit (at a time that suits you) we will be able to discuss your options for the project and will be able to tell you exactly what it will cost together with a scale floor space plan. This service is completely free, and we will be only too please to arrange to visit you.
Q) Will there be much disturbance?
A) Not at all, we keep entry to your current living area to a complete minimum, we gain entry to the loft space from the scaffolding which is the way all the materials will also be handled to the loft. We will only need to be working in the landing area to fit your new staircase and any stud walls that may be required, but we always cover relevant areas with dust sheets and always vacuum up any mess we make.
